The average price of gasoline could spike as much as 18 cents over the next 36 hours, according to an alert sent out by gas price monitoring website IndyGasPrices.com.
A gallon of regular unleaded gasoline in Indianapolis cost $3.31 early Wednesday morning, but the alert predicted with self-proclaimed 91-percent certainty that the average could rise to $3.49 by Thursday evening.
The range of prices in the Circle City is wide. Two stations on the east side show gas for $2.99, while gas sells as high as $3.59 on the south side.
Nationally, IndyGasPrices.com puts the average price at $3.39. Indiana's state average is $3.37.
The roller coaster ride gas prices are on has caused some commuters to change their habits.
Mike Swisher of Indianapolis told Fox 59 News he doesn't always fill up his tank all the way anymore.
"If [gas prices] trend higher and I'm really low, I might just get a little bit of gas," Swisher said.
Others, including Greg Densford, are just getting frustrated.
"I wish there were some way it could be regulated or changed, but I'm not confident that that's possible," Densford said.
