The Indiana Sports Corporation announced the first ever Big Ten Football Championship game at Lucas Oil Stadium is sold out. But local ticket brokers said there are still about 2,000 seats available on the secondary market.
Wisconsin and Michigan State will battle each other for a chance to play in the Rose Bowl this Saturday night. Both teams come into the game with a 10-2 record. For Wisconsin, it's a chance at a rematch after the heart-stopping hail mary that won the game for Michigan State October 22nd.
The championship game was made possible after the reorganization of the Big Ten divided the conference into the Legends and Leaders Divisions. Last year, Wisconsin and Michigan State had to share the Big Ten title with no championship game to decide a winner.
For the city of Indianapolis, it's the beginning of what organizers hope will be a long tradition. The Big Ten Championship game is scheduled to be played at Lucas Oil Stadium through 2015 and local leaders expect the response to be large.
"When you talk about 67,000 fans at Lucas Oil Stadium, that's pretty much what each of these teams get on campus week in week out," said John Redmon of the Indiana Sports Corporation.
Redman says 20,000 general public tickets were gone in two hours when they went on sale in July. Michigan State and Wisconsin have each sold their allotment of 15,000 tickets to regular fans. Colts season ticket buyers also had the option of buying their own ticket to the game.
After all that, local ticket brokers say there are some seats available, but they could go fast this week.
"In total, there's probably around maybe 2,000 seats out there on the secondary market right now," said Mike Peduto from Circle City Tickets.
Peduto said most tickets are still selling for close to face value.
"Starting at about $50 a seat, which is the face level value for the upper level endzone seats," Peduto said. "And then going up to a couple hundred bucks for a really good lower sideline, that's staying outside of the club areas."
Higher priced tickets are seeing higher markups; $175 club seats are now selling for about $300.
