PREP SOFTBALL
ST. JAMES — Ellie Williams and Jae Won Shin each had two hits to lead Saint James, which rallied for a 19-9 victory over St. Maria Goretti on Saturday.
The Gaels (0-9) led 7-0 through 2 1/2 innings, but the Saints rallied with 11 runs in the bottom of the third and broke it open with five more runs in the fourth.
The Saints improved to 2-5.

NEWVILLE, Pa. — Greencastle-Antrim finished third in the Big Spring Tournament.
Greencastle defeated Muhlenburg 8-0 and Kennard-Dale 18-1. Between the wins, Greencastle (12-4) lost to Chambersburg 11-8.
Jenna Crunkleton, Casey Cordell and Rachel Kline had six hits each in the three games. Kline had a four-hit game against Kennard-Dale with two home runs and five RBIs.

LEWISBERRY, Pa. — Waynesboro came up with a quality victory over Red Land behind the pitching effort of Andrew Ebersole, who picked up his first win of the year with 6 1/3 strong innings.
Clay Eberhardt had two triples and, in the fourth, scored on a squeeze bunt by Ebersole to tie the game at 2-all. The Indians (9-7) got back-to-back doubles by Alex Cline and Tim Ingram to break the tie.
Ebersole allowed five hits and had eight strikeouts.

Trojans roar in 4x400 at Penn Relays
PHILADELPHIA — Chambersburg’s Nick Rotz, Aaron Powell, Kellen Williams and Ryun Holder placed second in their heat in the 4x400-meter relay Saturday at the Penn Relays in 3:22.17 — a season-best performance in the Tri-State area.
Rotz, Powell, Holder and Adam Harriger competed later in the day in the Championship of America 4x800 and finished 12th out of 12 teams in 8:07.34, well off their advancement performance of 7:56.15 on Friday and their season-best time of 7:53.27 last weekend.

Devin Statler won the 100 (11.53), Dalton Monn won the 3,200 (10:11.15), David Spinder won the shot put (47-3 1/2), Caleb Bartlett won the discus (145-9) and the Blue Devils also won the 4x100 (45.01).
Steven Meyer won the javelin (162-11) for Southern Fulton.

SHEPHERDSTOWN, W.Va. — Brandon Coffey singled home Travis Sluger in the bottom of the ninth inning to lift Shepherd to a win over Pitt-Johnstown (23-24, 16-16) in the first game of a WVIAC doubleheader.
Pitt-Johnstown had a 3-1 lead after two innings in the nightcap before the game was suspended due to rain.
In the win for Shepherd (26-18, 18-11), Ryan Messina hit a two-run homer and Nathan Minnich had a two-run single.
The two teams return to action Sunday at Shepherd’s Fairfax Field at 1 p.m. The second game will be resumed and a nine-inning game will follow.

Beaver Creek advances to semis
Beaver Creek Country Club picked up a quarterfinal victory on Saturday in the Maryland State Golf Association A Team Championships.
Beaver Creek toppled Congressional Country Club, 12-6, to move into Sunday’s semifinals in a home-and-away match against University of Maryland Golf Club.
With nine points available at each course, Beaver Creek took advantage with an 8.5 to .5 win on home soil. Club pro Dirk Schultz and teammate Ken Lampard generated another 2.5 points in a win at Congressional.
Sunday’s winner will meet either Rolling Road or Bethesda-Chevy Chase for the state championship next week.
