CHICAGO -- "Don't quit your day job!" That was Jeff Samardzija's advice to his former college football coach when asked whether or not Charlie Weis should pursue a full time career as a singer at Wrigley Field.

Weis was at the Friendly Confines to show his support for Samardzija ... and to offer his singing services during the games 7th inning stretch.

"I heard he already took some shots at me earlier in the dugout, and I told him he needed a haircut. Tell him my part time job is a barber, and when Lou Piniella tells him it's time to cut his hair, I'll make myself available for him!"

Weis's son Charlie Jr. even got to take a few jabs at his dad's vocal skills. "Well he's not that bad when he sings in public," Charlie says. "But when he's at home it's a disaster. He tries to sing in the shower ... and it's not good!"

Weis's 7th inning rendition was followed up by a roaring applause from the fans at Wrigley. Irish football fans are hoping he provokes that same type of response at Notre Dame Stadium this season!
