SOUTH BEND -- As Bowl destinations go, you can't get much farther from the wintry weather in South Bend than the sun and beaches of Hawaii!

But make no mistake about it. Notre Dame isn't heading to the Pacific island for a vacation.

"It's not just a vacation. It's a business trip in itself as well," senior captain David Bruton says. "We gotta take care of business first and the free time that we do get, enjoy it. Soak in the sun. Soak in the memories. But when it comes game time or when it's practice, you gotta take it seriously because we're not coming there just to end up 6-7."

Another way to say it, is that Christmas Eve will be no day at the beach! Few teams in the country are as tough to beat at home as the University of Hawaii.

"We know they're a quality opponent and they're tough to beat at home," co-captain David Grimes admits. "I think their record at home is 22-4 in the last 26 games. So they're definitely a quality opponent."

For the Irish seniors the Hawaii Bowl is also one last chance to erase some of the frustrations from the past two seasons. And end their careers on a high note!

"I think it's just going out on top," Grimes said, when asked about his final game at Notre Dame. "Kind of take that bitter taste out of our mouth that we had this last month, and get the seniors something to be happy about."
