SOUTH BEND -- Mike Brey was his typical even tempered self in the Seton Hall post game press conference on Saturday night-until a touchy subject was brought up.

"He is a top tier National Player of the Year candidate, and the guys, the freaking guys, that are picking these other 2 or 3 guys --I want to see their coaching records, or I want to see their playing stats, or I want to see them in workout gear. That last one could be pretty funny quite frankly. Are you kidding me? This is machine like what he's doing."

Brey's mini rant was in response to a question about junior power forward Luke Harangody. Quite frankly it's hard to believe that there are those out there who don't consider Harangody in the upper echelon of National Player of the Year candidates. In basketball's toughest conference, Harangody ranks number one in scoring and rebounding -- currently averaging 24.5 points and close to 12 rebounds -- 4 points and 2 rebounds more than he did last year.

"I hope we understand what we're seeing here. This is a really special guy. A very very special guy," Brey said.

Harangody logged his fifth straight double-double and second straight game with at least 30 points versus Seton Hall. The scary part is that it could have been considered an off night for the big man.

"I was a little frustrated that they weren't going in, but I just kept playing and things turned out positive. I'm just embarrassed about the 8 for 26," Harangody says, even though he finished the night with 30 points and 16 rebounds.

"The offensive rebounding clinic that he put on in the second half -- I don't know if I've ever seen that," Brey admitted. "It's not like those guys were 6'3" in there and couldn't jump. His will to get us other possessions were a key to our success."
