NOTRE DAME -- Luke Harangody has been named to the Associated Press’ All-America second team for the second straight season.

The junior forward is the only player in the nation to rank in the top 10 in both scoring average (23.5) and rebounds per game (11.8) this season. Harangody scored in double figures in 31 of 33 games.

In addition to the accolades from the Associated Press, Harangody has recently earned third-team All-America honors from Sporting News and was a fourth-team selection according to Jeff Goodman with FOXSports.com. Last season, Harangody was a second team NCAA Consensus All-American.

After averaging 25.2 points and 12.8 rebounds in 18 BIG EAST games this season, Harangody became the first player in league history to lead the conference in scoring in back-to-back seasons. As a sophomore in 2007-08, he averaged 23.3 points and 11.3 rebounds in league play en route to being named the BIG EAST Player of the Year. In his three-year BIG EAST career, Harangody has scored 1,031 points (19.9 ppg) in 52 league contests. Only three other players in BIG EAST history – Ray Allen (Connecticut), Richard Hamilton (Connecticut) and Pat Garrity (Notre Dame) – have scored more than 1,000 points in three seasons.

Earlier this month, Harangody was named to the All-BIG EAST Conference first team for the second straight season. Harangody has been named to the Midseason Top 30 list for the 2009 John R. Wooden Award All-American Team and Player of the Year trophy along with the 30-man midseason list for the Naismith Trophy. Harangody also is among 15 finalists for the 2009 Oscar Robertson Trophy.

Joining Harangody on the Associated Press’ All-America second team were Hasheem Thabeet (Connecticut), Ty Lawson (North Carolina), Jodie Meeks (Kentucky) and Jerel McNeal (Marquette). Blake Griffin (Oklahoma), Tyler Hansbrough (North Carolina), DeJuan Blair (Pittsburgh), James Harden (Arizona State) and Stephen Curry (Davidson) all were first-team picks.
