(WSBT PHOTO) The Silver Hawks played good all-around baseball in winning the "Battle of the Bend" for the second straight year over Notre Dame Tuesday night, 5-1 at The Cove.

SOUTH BEND —Thanks to the Silver Hawks and the Fighting Irish baseball teams, It was another small war won against Niemann--Pick Type C in the annual "Battle of the Bend" Tuesday night at the Cove with South Bend winning the game, 5-1.

Playing in the name of charity, the Silver Hawks plated four runs in the 1st inning, taking command and winning the contest for the second straight year.

St. Matthew's priest, Father Michael Heintz, contributed by umpiring.

The Silver Hawks open up 2009 Thursday on the road against West Michigan. Their home-opener is next Monday night.

The Irish (19-10, 5-4) return to action on Thursday when they start a three-game road series at BIG EAST rival Cincinnati.
