NOTRE DAME — Irish junior wide receiver Golden Tate has been named a first team pre-season All-American by Phil Steele, in his 2009 college football preview magazine.

Tate is one of three wide receivers in the nation named to the first team, along with Dez Bryant of Oklahoma State and Illinois' Arrelious Benn.

Tate led Notre Dame in nearly every receiving category last season, including receptions (58), yards (1080) and touchdowns (10). Tate also had one rushing touchdown.

Teammate Sam Young, a senior offensive tackle, was named a 2nd team All-American by Steele.

Notre Dame kicks off the 2009 season on September 5th against Nevada.
