Notre Dame's Pollock, 3 more Indiana players taken in 1st round of MLB draft

By SBT 24/7 News

INDIANAPOLIS (AP) — Four players from Indiana high schools or colleges have been taken in the first round of the Major League baseball draft.

Three of them are right-handed pitchers, including Stanford's Drew Storen, a former player at Brownsburg High School who was taken 10th overall by the Washington Nationals on Tuesday.

Notre Dame center fielder A.J. Pollock was picked 17th by Arizona; Missouri pitcher Kyle Gibson of Greenfield was taken 22nd by Minnesota despite a stress fracture in his throwing arm; and pitcher Eric Arnett of Indiana University was taken 26th by Milwaukee.

Two other IU players were taken in the compensation round, with catcher Josh Phegley picked 38th by the Chicago White Sox and pitcher Matt Bashore 46th by Minnesota.

No other Indiana players were picked in the first three rounds. Rounds four through 30 are Wednesday, and rounds 31 through 50 will be tomorrow.
