NEW YORK - A new bowl game that will be played at Yankee Stadium could have implications for the University of Notre Dame.

The bowl will pair a Big East team against a Big 12 team, the Associated Press reported. The conferences announced Wednesday that they have agreed to a four-year deal, with the first game being played following the 2010 season.

The Big East participant will be the conference’s third or fourth selection while the Big 12 will be represented by its seventh selection.

If the Big 12 does not have enough eligible teams, Notre Dame will take its place, if it is eligible.

Notre Dame will play Army at Yankee Stadium on Nov. 20, 2010, the first football game to be played in the stadium, which opened this season.

The yet-to-be-named bowl game will be played between Christmas and New Year’s Day.
