SOUTH BEND – During Notre Dame’s BCS run in 2006, Irish head football coach Charlie Weis once lamented about Florida jumping his team in the polls when the Gators “were home eating cheeseburgers.”

Sunday, he received a little boomerang karma during his own team’s bye week.

It’s tough to say whether anyone connected with Notre Dame ingested a cheeseburger Saturday, but it is safe to say Weis was in south Florida recruiting and the Irish players didn’t so much as practice. And on Sunday afternoon, the Irish (4-1) re-entered both the Associated Press and USA Today coaches Top 25 college football polls.

ND is ranked 25th in both polls. USC (4-1), ND’s upcoming opponent this Saturday at Notre Dame Stadium, also moved up during its bye week. The Trojans will head to Notre Dame ranked sixth in the AP poll, up from seventh a week ago. In the coaches poll, USC jumped idle Boise State, moving from seventh to fifth,

The Irish (4-1) tumbled out of the polls Sept. 13 after a 38-34 loss to Michigan a day earlier. Future opponent Pitt (5-1) just missed the AP Top 25 and is 26th. The only other upcoming ND opponents to garner support were Stanford (4-2) and Navy (4-2), each of which picked up one vote for the 25th spot.

Notre Dame made a big move in the Sagarin computer rankings, vaulting to No. 17. Its remaining opponents’ rankings are as follows: USC No. 4, Boston College 39th, Washington State 118th, Navy 51st, Pitt 26th, Connecticut 47th and Stanford 27th.

Among previous ND opponents, Washington at No. 31, ranks the highest, followed by Michigan 37th, Michigan State 41st, Nevada 78th and Purdue 91st.
