Robby Parris is finally brought down near the end zone after a long gain out of the Wildcat Saturday at Notre Dame Stadium.

SOUTH BEND, Ind. - Robby Parris might be available for another fake field goal after all.

And a whole lot more.

Notre Dane’s third-leading receiver, listed as definitely out early in the week, climbed the ladder to doubtful, then questionable, then darn near perfect by Thursday night for Saturday’s Notre Dame football game with Boston College.

“He’s actually a go,” Irish head coach Charlie Weis said. “He just practiced full speed. I’m really surprised.”

The senior from Olmsted Falls, Ohio, suffered ankle, knee and hip injuries in the final minute of Notre Dame’s 34-27 loss Saturday to USC.

Parris had a career-high nine receptions against the Trojans, including one from holder Eric Maust for 25 yards on a fake field goal that led to an ND touchdown.

  • Speaking of fake field goals, Dave Cutaia, the Pac-10’s coordinator of officials, said Thursday Notre Dame should have been penalized 15 yards on the play involving Parris.

He said that the Irish used “substitutions to deceive.”

Parris wasn’t a substitute on the play. He did jog toward the sideline slowly, then lined up wide of the formation.

Weis had no comment on the call specifically. But when asked if he typically alerts officials of trick plays, he responded, “I told them we’d have the kitchen sink.

“I’m not going to tell the Pac-10 officials ever that we have a special play,” he continued. “I’ve never told them (before), and I won’t tell them the next time, either. They’re just going to have to call it as it happens.

“And that might not be the only conference-affiliated officiating crew I won’t (tell about) something special we’re going to end up doing - if you get my drift.”
