Right now, IU South Bend has varsity basketball and volleyball teams, but could future students someday have the chance to get involved in different sports?

According to our news partners at the South Bend Tribune, IU South Bend has three varsity teams, but must have six by fall of 2015 to be eligible to continue as a National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics Division 1 school.

IU South Bend's chancellor says it will take $300,000 more per year to reach a six-sport minimum.

The three proposed sports have not yet been announced.

The chancellor says that students who participate in sports generally tend to do better in their classes, and says he is excited about the possibility.
