SAN DIEGO — The Central Union High boys’ soccer team advanced to the semifinal of the San Diego High tournament here Monday.
The Spartans beat Scripps Ranch High, 2-0, in the quarterfinals with goals by Kevin Zamora and Dan Negrete.
Central will face Point Loma at 5 p.m. today in the semifinals in San Diego.
BOYS’ SOCCER
Vikings take third at tourney
SAN DIEGO — The Holtville High boys’ soccer team finished in third place at the Francis W. Parker soccer tournament.
Play began a week ago, during which the Vikings defeated the Preuss School UCSD, 2-0, and High Tech High of Chula Vista, 2-1. These two victories allowed them to advance to the semifinals this past Saturday.
Their first game was against King-Chavez Community High School, which Holtville lost, 0-2.
Later that same day they faced off against Health Sciences High of San Diego for third place. Julian Castro scored the first and third goals and Eber Camarena scored the second and fourth on the Vikings’ way to a 4-0 victory.
The Vikings play again at 6 p.m. tonight at Southwest High.
BOYS’ BASKETBALL
Spartans get win in tourney
EL CAJON — The Central Union High boys’ basketball team beat Mar Vista High, 53-52, in the Grossmont High tournament here Monday.
For the Spartans, Luis Vizcaino had 25 points and Ricky Williams had 15 points.
Tigers lose to Valley Center
EL CAJON — The Imperial High boys’ basketball team lost to Valley Center, 46-45, in the Grossmont High tournament here Monday.
For the Tigers, Royce Freeman had 11 points and four rebounds. Dexter Bell and Dajon Staton had eight points each.
Imperial will continue in the tournament Wednesday.
