Jimmy Clausen is Staying 'California Cool'

By Beth Boehne

(WSBT) He came to South Bend labeled a "can't miss" prospect. As of today, his team is 0-4 and he's three starts into his career without a touchdown pass.

But that doesn't mean Jimmy Clausen isn't enjoying himself.

"It's been an experience," said Clausen at a recent press conference, just the second time he’s been able to speak with the media.

You can say that again.

How else does a kid that went 42-0 in high school find the silver lining in a winless start? Clausen is "California cool" in that department.

"That's high school. College is a way different thing," Clausen said. "It's helped me, and not only me but the rest of the team, realize that this is a hard game."

Clausen claims his arm is completely healthy, but his stats are still down with just 305 yards passing.

Then there's the problem of the sacks — Clausen's hit the deck 19 times!

"Football is a physical sport," he said. "If I didn't want to play football or get hit, I should have played golf or something like that."

For now, most people are glad he chose pigskin, despite the "sink or swim" situation he's in.

"Anything I can do to help the team win, I'm gonna do, to get that first win," Clausen said. "That's all we need, to get that first win, and just go from there."
