ANN ARBOR, Mich. (AP) — Michigan football coach Rich Rodriguez says claims that he, or his coaches, have compromised Michigan's values are "way off base."

Rodriguez expressed disappointment Thursday about claims that the program's values have eroded since former coach Lloyd Carr retired in January. Sophomore guard Justin Boren had issued a statement Wednesday saying he was leaving the team because of the decline in "family values" since Rodriguez took over.

Rodriguez would not discuss Boren's situation specifically. But he tells The Ann Arbor News that his players and coaches are his family and that he's going to "coach every player like I was coaching my own son."

Rodriguez says his coaching style may differ from previous Michigan coaches: "But we're not going to apologize for being demanding."

has anyone mentioned the preferential treatment JB got. Never at weekend meetings, never had to "workout" with the team, he got to work out with his dad on weekends. Never ate with the team during 2adays, didn't want to follow tradition of freshmen sing. He is a spoiled "Brat" that had to do what the rest of the team was expected to, and it didn't follow his routine of going home every weekend and calling his own shots. I blame the past coaches that allowed that. Not a TEAM PLAYER
