ELKHART — The top high school rugby club in the nation traveled to Elkhart this weekend to scrum with several Midwestern teams, including Penn High School. If you've never watched a Rugby match, you're in for a treat!

With 17 national championships and a 367-9 record, the Highland Rugby Club of Salt Lake City, Utah has survived a scrum or two.

"They’ve only lost nine games in the last 30 years, so for them to be here in our backyard and want to play us is a great opportunity for us and a great honor,” Penn head coach Bart Bottorff told WSBT Sports. “They have the ability to put 60 points on us today, but we know that we will leave this field better for it."

Highland traveled to the Moose Rugby Grounds in Elkhart from Salt Lake City to ruck and maul with the third-ranked Kingsmen!

"We like to play fast, we like to play hard,” said Penn senior captain Kyle Overstreet. “I just hope we can hang with these guys and punch them in the mouth and give them a game."

Highland showed why they’re ranked number one, but the game was a win-win for everyone.

"What we can take from it is a great game against one of the premier rugby teams in the nation — Penn High School,” said Highland head coach Larry Gelwix. “It will be a great experience, lots of friendships, and a very classy coaching staff with Bart and his assistants.”

"We can't lose today, we honestly can't,” Bottorff said. “To play a caliber team like Highland is only a win-win for us in the end."
