WAKARUSA — Wakarusa's Derick Layman just might be Michiana's number 1 Cubs fan. He certainly has the wheels to prove it!

"It's the Cubstiva. It’s a ‘91 Ford Festiva that I made into the Cubstiva,” Layman told WSBT Sports. “It's just fully Cubs-themed.”

Whether it's hugging the corners of Clark and Addison, or driving around Elkhart County, the Cubstiva is Layman's labor of love. As many can attest, being a Cubs fan is hard work.

"When the car breaks down or I blow out a tire or something like that, it makes me feel a lot like the Cubs some days, when you expect things to go smoothly and they don't,” explained Layman. “It’s just like following the Cubs, trying to keep the car running, keep it going.”

Layman’s Cubstiva comes complete with the T-shirt upholstery, a baseball for a stick shift, and even a custom lighter.

The Cubstiva's top hat, bought on eBay, is the car's version of a home run.

And then there's this:

"I put ‘This is next year’ [on the side of the car],” Layman said. “I think I put that on two years ago and I’m still waiting for this to be the year.”

Just like any person, place, or thing since 1908.

One day, this Cubs fan wishes that maybe, just maybe, one of his drives will be the Cubs drive to the World Series championship.

"When we're in first place we drive with the windows down,” Layman said. “When we're in the cellar, we keep the tinted windows up and take the back roads more!”

I don't think I have ever seen anything like this. Mr Layman is obviously a very intelligent man with a great sense of humor and a love for some good clean FUN!!
