WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. (AP) — Purdue safety Torri Williams has been suspended indefinitely from the football team for conduct detrimental to the squad, the school announced in a release.

Williams, a redshirt senior from Cedar Park, Tex., was accused last week of shoplifting from a Lafayette grocery store.

It was the latest setback for Williams, a talented athlete who hasn't made it through a season without a major injury since 2004.

Last season, he appeared in seven games. He had 17 tackles and two interceptions, but he ruptured his Achilles tendon at Michigan on Oct. 13 and was sidelined for rest of season.

In 2006, he started the season opener against Indiana State, but went down with a season-ending dislocated knee in third quarter.

He did not play in 2005 because he broke his leg during spring practice.
