Samardzija loses debut despite solid outing

ALBUQUERQUE -- Pitcher Jeff Samardzija's Triple-A debut with the Iowa Cubs was spoiled by a loss.

Samardzija made his first start with the Cubs Triple-A affiliate against the Albuquerque Isotopes and didn't throw bad. The former Notre Dame two sports star pitched six innings, striking out five batters and allowing three earned runs.

Unfortunately, the Iowa Cubs didn't score many runs for him, and they lose 4-2. Samardzija gets tagged with the loss. He is scheduled to start again on Saturday, when the Iowa Cubs host the Isotopes in Des Moines.
