SOUTH BEND -- He's remembered as a warrior and a fierce competitor. One of the greatest players in Notre Dame history. But growing up in a poor neighborhood in south Chicago, Chris Zorich never dreamed of playing college football.

"Unfortunately, " Zorich recalls, "in my community, graduating from high school was the epitome unfortunately."

A scholarship to Notre Dame afforded him the opportunity of a lifetime.

"The best four years of my life were spent playing here."

And they didn't go unnoticed. He earned All-American status, an unprecedented three times ... leading the Irish to their last national championship! Now his legend lives on at the College Football Hall of Fame — the only member of Notre Dame's 1988 national championship team to be inducted so far.

Chris Zorich belongs in the College Football HOF. He was an ahchor on a stellar defense that won ND's last national title. congrats Chris. Now if he can make it from the "mean streets" of chi town to ND, and then to law school, why is it that all of us cannot succeed? Keep succeeding Chris.

In response to what 4:34 AM ????? said (Hall of Fame material. I think not. He may be a great guy but he didnt do squat in the NFL....whatever. This hall of fame is a joke.) For your information it's the COLLEGE Football Hall of Fame, not the NFL Hall of Fame. Guess you didn't know the difference so I thought I would point this out to you.

Chris rode in our car for the parade Saturday. He couldn't have been more gracious to his fans, young and old, along the route. He talked to everyone and had a ball in spite of the rain. Hall of Fame material...no question! Not just because of his accomplishments on the field for Notre Dame, but because of his good works outside of football. He is an excellent ambassador for the hall, for ND and for local sports in general. Congratulations again, Chris!

The College Football Hall of Fame sure knew how to keep the rift/raff of South Bend from attending the events. Sure there were a few free things that the POOR of SB could attend.(Parade, football game, viewing from afar) But most events were just for the wealthy.(Autogragh session $60 per person, dinner $175 per person,Fan Fest $5 per person) A family of four $960. The average person in SB NETS JUST ABOVE THAT EACH MONTH. That took care of the poor SBender from attending. No fights, gangs or shootin
