SOUTH BEND — After a winless 2007, first-year Washington Panther head coach Antowon Jones is asking the question: "Why not South Bend Washington?"

Jones, a former Notre Dame player, has brought plenty of moxie to the sidelines. To help build team confidence, Jones took his players to many 7-on-7 football competitions over the summer coming away impressed with the talent level he's inherited.

Washington will likely open things up on offense this year.

Leaders for Washington include Jarrett Fleming, Troy Franklin and Philip Hobbs.

The Panthers open up at Marian Friday night.

I've been lucky enough to be able to watch them in the 7 on 7 and in their scrimmage there is talent on the west side. If this group of young men can put it all together the rest of the NIC better watch out, for the pride of the west side might return to the glory days. GO PANTHERS !!!! best of luck from a true PANTHER
