ST. JOSEPH CO. — Sarah Blaase has been fueling Penn High School's varsity soccer team since her freshman year.

"I think the rest of our kids feed off of her," said head coach Mike Luber.
"When they see her kind of doing things on the field that can really begin to take over the game, it really raises the intensity level of our whole group. And to me that's the catalyst that — every team needs a catalyst like that and she's that for us."

"I like to make the plays, and I like to set people up," Sarah explained. "I'm also a technical player so I like to take people on as well, and I like to score!"

Sarah's aggressive style of play on the field has earned her a scholarship to Western Illinois University. But her drive on the soccer field also extends right into the classroom where she maintains a 3.86 GPA.

"I've always been big into academics," she said. I really like history a lot, and English — I like to write. Right now I'm taking mythology and that's my favorite class."

“We think it's important for all of our kids to not only be good athletes, but good students and Sarah leads by example as well,” said Luber.

Whether she’s in school or in the game, Sarah doesn’t let much slide by her.

Congratulations to Sarah Blaase, the Burger King Outstanding Student Athlete of the Week!
