MUNCIE, Ind. — For the Marian Knights, nothing short of a state title was going to be good enough this year.

"It's hard for the girls right now, but I am proud of them," said Knights head coach Dan Anderson. "We served the ball pretty well, but our hitting and attacking around the net wasn't as strong tonight as it has been all season."

Despite 10 kills and seven digs from sophomore Meredith Farkas, the Knights (33-7) have to settle for second best for the third straight season.

"It is hard to come up second, but I am proud of our team. We were mentally ready, but physically we just came up short. I wish the girls next year the best of luck," said Marian senior Claire Farkas, who had seven kills and nine digs in her final match.

Darcy Dorton tallied 23 kills and nine digs, leading top-ranked Delta to a 25-21, 25-18, 25-19 win over No. 3 Marian in the Class 3-A state championship match at Ball State's Worthen Arena.
