SOUTH BEND — It was a tough decision, but the stress is finally over — Washington's Skylar Diggins is joining the Fighting Irish women's basketball team.

The Washington hoops star chose the Irish over both Penn State and Stanford and made the announcement late Wednesday night at Washington High School in front of family and friends. Skylar says she is thrilled to stay close to home for the next four years.

"When we played the other night, I looked over and saw my family in the stands," Diggins said. "I was like 'Aw yeah, I love this feeling.' I couldn't go anywhere else but here."

She will keep her number 4 jersey with the Irish, and plans on studying medicine at Notre Dame.

Diggins has led Washington to three straight 4A State Championship game appearnces including a State Championship in 2007.
