SOUTH BEND — "I think that the team has a chance of being pretty darn good next year. I can't worry about my job status. I'm the head football coach. And that's what I intend to be."

That is how Notre Dame head coach Charlie Weis responded on Sunday, when asked if he feels comfortable with his job status after a stunning loss to Syracuse. No one knows whether or not the mistakes of the past two years can be fixed in one more off season, but this much we do know — Charlie Weis is feeling the pressure.

"The first thing I had to do after the game is deal with the emotion of the players, especially the seniors," Weis explained. "I made sure before I went and did media, I made sure I spent some extra time making sure I saw a bunch of those guys. I couldn't get to all of them. But I tried to get to a bunch of those guys. Then after doing media, which is always my favorite after a game like that, then my attention, because I had recruiting going on, my attention briefly turned to my wife and my son, who were pretty tore up. But then you go to recruiting, and you can't like all of a sudden, you've got a bunch of top recruits in here. You can't say all of a sudden I'm not going to recruit today because I'm not in a very good mood, and kind of brings you back to reality because then you're back to work all over again in a very calm demeanor. And I think that the problem is you have to mix and match a whole different bunch of things. Your own players, your own family, recruiting, all those things have to mix. They have to co-exist and sometimes it's tough going from one hat to the next."

With a tough challenge right around the corner in USC, and the very real possibility of heading into a bowl game at 6-6, the jury is still out on whether or not Weis will be juggling the same amount of hats next season.
