NOTRE DAME - Notre Dame hockey sent the class of 2009 out in style with a 5-0 win over Michigan State Friday at the Joyce Center.

And it was the seniors themselves, making the most of their final home game.

Senior Erik Condra scored twice and fellow senior Justin White added a single goal while Garrett Regan and Christian Hanson picked up assists in the shutout. Also notching goals on the night for the Irish were freshman Billy Maday and junior Christian Minella. Senior goaltender Jordan Pearce made 15 saves in picking up his second consecutive shutout and his sixth of the season.

Notre Dame is the #1 team in the nation. Following the game, the Irish celebrated by unveiling their 2008-09 CCHA regular season championship banner.

It was a bittersweet night at the Joyce Center, as Notre Dame played its first game of the season without long-time play-by-play man, Mike Lockert, who passed away on Friday morning.

The Irish honored Lockert's memory with a moment of silence before the game, and wearing Lockert's initials, "ML" on the backs of their helmets.

WSBT’s Darin Pritchett filled in for the Lockert on the game on Cat Country 99.9 FM.
