MISHAWAKA — There's probably no better high school golfer in the state of Indiana than Marian high school senior Adam Sumrall.

And it's not really up for debate. It's just the way it is!

So at this stage in the year, Knight's coach Jim Kryder's biggest challenge is to keep his star player loose.

"[I tell him to] stay relaxed and focused," said Kryder. "At this stage in his career, that's all I can really tell him. His game is where it needs to be."

Translation: He's making a lot more birdies than bogeys.

He's making the grades too. Sumrall will attend Duke in the fall, and play varsity golf. He hopes to play professionally after that, but even if he doesn't ...

"If golf doesn't work out I want to have a great degree so I can get a good job," said Sumrall. "That's what my family stressed. Golf's not #1."

Adam, however, is #1 pretty much every time he tees it up.

After two consecutive runner-up finishes at the state golf tournament as a sophomore and junior, there's only thing left to accomplish, before Sumrall heads off to college.

"Win! There is no moral victory. If I play the way I know I can play, I think I'll win."

His coach agrees. "I know he can do it. He believes he can do it. It's a matter of performing."

Congratulations to Adam Sumrall, this week's Burger King Outstanding Student Athlete!
