NILES - The Niles softball team, just a few wins away from a state title in Division 2, plays in the state quarterfinals Tuesday against Hudsonville Unity Christian at 3:00.

Just a few wins away from a state title, the Niles softball team is gearing up again to take down another higher seeded team in the state tournament.

Building on their already successful regular season, Niles heads into Tuesday's matchup with #3 Hudsonville Unity Christian having already taken down both the #1 and #2 ranked teams in the state.

Niles head coach Gary Collins believes his team is ready for the Tuesday matchup with Unity Christian. "Our girls are really focused. We played a heck of a schedule. We played a final four team from Indiana, Gary Andrean. We also played Penn. We played some really good teams throughout the year. We're not intimidated by anybody. That's for sure."

Collins' players are confident in the way their team is playing at this point in their season. Senior infielder Nellie Coquillard thinks that Niles' great team chemistry will help them attain their goal of a state championship. "It feels like we really are starting to come together as a team and work hard and work together. Now that we're playing Unity Christian, they're ranked #3 (in the state), so we're knocking them off one at a time, getting our way to state."

First pitch is scheduled for 3:00.
