FRANKLIN - Marian senior Adam Sumrall shot a 6-under par 66 in the finial round of the state golf tournament, to win the state championship.

Sumrall began the day tied for 12th place, after shooting a 74 (+2) in the opening round on Tuesday.

Today, he went out early and posted a number that no one else in the state could even come close to.

Sumrall made birdies on the second, third, fifth and sixth holes to get to 2-under par for the tournament, vaulting from 12th to 2nd, and placing him within a shot of the overnight leader, Patrick Rodgers of Avon.

Sumrall then bogeyed the 7th hole to fall back to one under. However, he played a flawless back nine, with three more birdies to shoot a single day total 66, and post a two day total of 4-under par on the leaderboard.

Then, he had to sit a watch while the rest of the leaders took their best shots.

Rodgers birdied the 15th hole to move to 4-under, and into a tie with Sumrall with three holes to play.

They were still tied when Rodgers got to the 18th hole. But Rodgers made double-bogey on the final hole, leaving Sumrall with the state championship.
