WESTLAKE VILLAGE, Calif. — University of Michigan golfer Joey Garber shot a 1-over 214 to finish tied for eighth in the University of Southern California Collegiate Invitational at North Ranch Country Club in suburban Los Angeles.
Garber, a 2010 Petoskey High School graduate and a freshman at U-M, had the best finish among the Wolverine contingent in the 54-hole event. He shot 70-71-73. Patrick Cantlay of UCLA shot a 6-under 207 to win the tournament. Eighty players comprised the field.
San Diego State finished with 850 to place first. Michigan shot 871 to place fifth in the 15-team field.
— Dustin Dibble, 2008 Petoskey High School graduate, scored a season-high 14 points, hauled in six rebounds, and dished out two assists for the University of Missouri-Kansas City in a 103-90 men’s basketball loss to the Summit League-leading Oakland University, 103-90.
Dibble had three rebounds in 13 minutes in the Kangroos’ regular-season ending 82-57 loss to Indiana-Purdue-Fort Wayne.
UMKC is 16-13 overall, 9-9 in league. The Kangroos are the No. 6 seed in the Summit League Tournament, and open on Sunday, March 6, against Indiana-Purdue-Indianapolis.
— Petoskey High School graduate Kegan Arthur wrapped up his freshman season on the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater wrestling team with a third-place finish at 149 pounds in the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Tournament at the University of Wisconsin-Platteville.
Arthur opened the tournament by dropping a 5-0 decision to Kris Magruder of Wisconsin-Stevens Point. Arthur then pinned Joshua Baier of Wisconsin-Eau Claire in 54 seconds, then scored an 11-3 major decision of Ryan Borman of Wisconsin-Platteville in the third-place match.
Wisconsin-Whitewater placed four second in the six-team tournament.
Arthur finished with season 31-7 with a team-best 18 pins. He recorded the fastest pin, 24 seconds, of the season among Warhawk wrestlers and his record ranks among the top four on the team. Arthur placed in every tournament in which he participated.
