Solar Bears to team with area youth hockey leagues
Orlando's ECHL team to sponsor teams in RDV House League
The Orlando Solar Bears will sponsor youth hockey leagues at the RDV Sportsplex Ice Den. (Stephen M. Dowell, Orlando Sentinel) (October 11, 2012)
Starting this month, the RDV House League teams will wear jerseys with the Orlando Solar Bears House League crest. Eight different jerseys have been created and will be worn by 20 teams and more than 200 players in fall, winter and spring leagues.
As part of the deal, youth players will have the chance to participate in clinics hosted by Solar Bears coaches and players. They also will play and perform during intermissions at Solar Bears games at Amway Center.
The RDV Sportsplex Ice Den offers house-league hockey, usually in 10-week sessions, for children ages 4-17. To join a team, call 407-916-2556, visit rdvsportsplex.com or sign up at the Ice Den in Maitland.
The Solar Bears also announced that forward Matthew Panzo of Eustis and defenseman Edward Levens of Clermont have been invited to training camp. They were two of 36 players who participated in last week's open tryout.
The Solar Bears will begin their inaugural season in the ECHL, formerly the East Coast Hockey League, in October.
