BELLAIRE — Bellaire used a solid start and a strong inside game en route to topping Boyne Falls, 54-37, Tuesday in a non-league contest.
Mitch Teetzel had a game-high 22 points and nine rebounds, while Drew Bailey added 11 points as the Eagles improved to 2-0. Bellaire jumped out to a 15-5 first quarter lead and were in front 29-17 at the break.
“We just came out really flat,” Boyne Falls coach Tim Smith said. “We got down 10 points early on and we got back in the game and made a nice run in the third and fourth to get closer, but in the end their two big guys Teetzel and Bailey killed us inside.
“We fought hard, but we learned a valuable lesson in that you can’t afford to not show up early.”
For Boyne Falls, 2-1, Marcus Matelski finished with 19 points, while Brendon Matelski added 11 points.
Bellaire also won the JV game, 35-30.
Forest Area 61, Pellston 52
PELLSTON — Austin Vance scored 15 points and Chad Roberts added 13 for Fife Lake Forest Area during a Ski Valley Conference game Tuesday.
For Pellston, Dale Stark scored 18 and collected eight rebounds, while Austin Hamlin added eight rebounds and David Andress had five rebounds.
“We have made improvements in each game this season,” Pellston coach Cliff Hass said. “Tonight it was a close game, and it positive step forward for us.”
Pellston, 0-3 overall, 0-1 league, fell behind early and trailed, 13-6, at the end of the first quarter.
Forest Area was able to hang onto the lead at halftime, 25-23, and took a 40-36 advantage into the fourth quarter.
Also for the Warriors, 1-1, 1-0, Chris Birgy scored 12 points and Justin Burke added 11.
Mancelona 66, Inland Lakes 45
INDIAN RIVER — Brandon Dingman led Mancelona with 21 points and 12 rebounds, while Brandon Scott added 16 points as the Ironmen topped Inland Lakes in a Ski Valley Conference contest Tuesday.
“Mancelona played well tonight,” Inland Lakes coach Joe Mahoney said. “We had a tough time stopping their two best players.”
For Inland Lakes, 0-1 overall, 0-1 league, Dakotah Davedowski led all scorers with 23 points and Nick Howrey scored nine points and collected eight rebounds.
The Ironmen led at halftime, 25-23, before building on their lead in the second half.
“We played well for the first game of our season,” added Mahoney. “But, they forced into turnovers and hit their shots at the free throw line to pull away down the stretch.”
