ELK RAPIDS — Sophomore quarterback Corey Redman rushed for three touchdowns and threw for another as Boyne City used a strong second half effort to top Elk Rapids Friday in a league contest.
Trailing 30-22 at halftime, the Ramblers shut out the Elks in the second half and scored three fourth quarter TD’s to improve to 8-0 overall, 5-0 league. Elk Rapids is 4-4, 3-2.
“We felt going in it was going to be a tough game,” Boyne City coach Dave Hill said. “We felt pretty fortunate to come out with a win. We were just sloppy in the first half and technically we weren’t real crisp. They (Elk Rapids) have an offense where if you make a mistake, they’ll make you look bad and we had to clean up some responsibilities.”
The Ramblers were down 14-0 late in the first quarter before Jamael Kelly made it 14-7 as he scored on a 63-yard TD pass from Redman. Austin Gardner added the extra point.
Redman then scored on a 1-yard run with just over 10 minutes to play in the second quarter and hooked up with Connor Beebe for the two-point conversion before Malik Smith scored from 1-yard out and Gardner kicked the extra point to tie the game at 22-all.
