The San Diego Chargers waived rookie running back Marion Grice, San Diego Union-Tribune reported Monday.

The 22-year-old Grice, a sixth-round pick from Arizona State, led the Chargers with 167 rushing yards in the preseason (4.1 yards per attempt).

Grice's departure leaves Ryan Mathews, Danny Woodhead, Donald Brown and Branden Oliver as the Chargers' four running backs. Grice competed for the No. 4 running back job with Oliver, an undrafted rookie who ultimately won out.

San Diego has a spot available on the practice squad. If Grice clears waivers Tuesday afternoon, that could be his spot.
