A South Bend high school student still recovering from an injury is receiving a national honor.
Brett Banasiewic is the 2012 Toyota Athlete of the Year for BMX Park.
The Washington High School senior suffered a serious brain injury last August while practicing for an event in Virginia. He's now rehabbing in Texas.
Banasiewicz has had quite an impact on South Bend, starting a skate park called The Kitchen.
Brett is certainly in the biggest competition of his young life. Glad to see that he is recognized for his achievements.
It would be nice if the author knew how to spell.....Brett's name is BANASIEWICZ.
Brett and his family are Stars of the Year. They are so inspirational in every way and have shown us how to live our lives while facing the unknown. Great Job Brett!
