If it looks like Anna Wilcoxson has had a lot of practice, there's a reason for that.
"I started playing golf when I was two years old," said the South Bend St. Joseph star.
"She loved it from the time she picked up a club," said her coach, Ron Wilcoxson. "And she had the same swing at three that she has now. Just a completely natural swing, and you can't teach that."
Her coach remembers those early days even better than she does. Because he's also her dad. Which has some obvious advantages.
"He knows my swing really well," she said, "and when I'm doing something wrong, he can correct it automatically."
There hasn't been a whole lot to correct. Wilcoxson has been one of the best in the state, and even internationally. She won the Indiana Masters this summer, and also finished in the top 10 at the Women's Western, an international tournament in Cincinnati.
"She's a total package," Ron Wilcoxson said. "She has the mental attitude, she has the physical training, she has professional coaching, she brings it all together. And that's what you need to do to win something."
She'll try to keep her winning ways going this weekend, making her third appearance at state.
"I figure I've been here before and I have some unfinished business to take care of," she said.
The fact that she started that business at such a young age will certainly be an advantage.
"When you start so young," she said, "you really gain that confidence level and it helps you later in life."
