MISHAWAKA – Mishawaka High School is celebrating a national champion.

Sophomore Anna Rohrer won the Foot Locker National High School Cross Country Championship in San Diego over the weekend.

During a pep rally at MHS Monday afternoon, Mayor Dave Wood read a proclamation naming Saturday, December 8 Anna Rohrer Day in the Princess City.

She got a little emotional with all the attention.

“I was just overwhelmed,” said Rohrer. “I guess I did cry, cause I was not expecting that award the mayor gave me at all. I can’t believe all the support and how happy people are for me and our school. And now, people know where Mishawaka, Indiana is, and that’s fantastic.”

Rohrer says she even got an e-mail from Olympian and Plymouth native Morgan Uceny before the race, wishing her luck.

There’s also something about her in this week’s issue of “Sports Illustrated.”
