Add another lifelong Notre Dame fan to the 2013 Irish recruiting class.

On Sunday, tight end Durham Smythe announced his verbal commitment to Notre Dame on the tail end of his official visit on campus.

“Officially committed to the University of Notre Dame! #IrishMob13 #ND,” Smythe tweeted.

Smythe, a 6-foot-5, 230-pound prospect from Belton, Texas, gives the Irish 23 commitments. He joins early enrolled Mike Heuerman as the second tight end in the class.

The Irish increased their interest in Smythe after he decommitted from Texas in December to earn the official visit. Smythe was also considering Stanford and Michigan as his finalists.

Smythe ranks as the No. 6 tight end on 247Sports.com and at No. 15 on Rivals.com.

The Irish likely have one or two more scholarships available if all current verbal commitments to the 2013 class remain intact.
