SOUTH BEND -- The Russian Red Stars come to the Compton Family Ice
Arena for an exhibition game Tuesday night at 7:05.
Irish coach Jeff Jackson had not had a chance to see the team on tape
prior to Saturday's 5-2 ND win over Boston University. But he had a
pretty good idea on what the 12-6-3 Irish would be facing.
"The Russians have gotten better every time they have played over
here," Jackson said. "I expect them to be a highly skilled team. They
have three guys who are very highly ranked for the NHL draft.
"They will play a little different style. They like to flow and go and
leave the zone. They will be very talented."
Jackson said the game will provide him the chance to do some
experimenting while also giving some players more time, since center
T.J. Tynan and Stephen Johns are out through Jan. 5 for the World
Junior Championships, plus freshman right wing Austin Wuthrich is out
with an injury.
Four players got more playing time in Saturday's win because of that --
freshman right wingers Peter Schneider, who had two assists versus BU,
and Garrett Peterson, who had a goal and an assist, plus junior right
wing Kevin Nugent and sophomore defenseman Jared Beers.
