Notre Dame is movin’ on up!
The Fighting Irish are inching closer to a possible college football national championship game berth.
Right now, ND is the odd man out, but with lots of football still left to be played, Notre Dame still has a good shot at earning a top 2 spot and playing in the national title tilt.
With previously #1 Alabama’s stunning 29-24 home loss to Texas A&M on Saturday, Notre Dame has climbed past the Crimson Tide into the No. 3 position in this week’s Associated Press poll released Sunday afternoon.
Oregon is now the top-ranked team in the country after blowing out California Saturday, 59-21. Kansas State, following its 23-10 win at TCU, is No. 2 followed by the Irish who improved to 10-0 after its 21-6 road win over Boston College Saturday night.
Notre Dame received 1 of the 60 1st place AP votes.
Alabama tumbled to No. 4. Georgia is 5th.
Rounding out the top 10 are Ohio State (who is BCS ineligible), Florida, LSU, Texas A&M and Florida State.
The all-important BCS standings will be released Sunday night, and CBS Sports projects the Irish will be 3rd behind Oregon and Kansas State.
Notre Dame rounds out its regular season schedule at home against Wake Forest next Saturday and then makes a trip to #21 USC on November 24.
