Notre Dame women's basketball: Diggins and Peters stepping up
team, Skylar Diggins and Devereaux Peters have been lighting up the
scoreboard in impressive fashion lately.
It's a trend Irish coach Muffet McGraw hopes will continue Tuesday
night, when No. 2 Notre Dame (21-1 overall, 8-0 Big East) plays at No.
13 Rutgers (17-4, 6-2). The game is scheduled to start at 7 p.m. and
will be telecast on the CBS Sports Network.
Diggins, a 5-foot-9 junior guard, has put together three consecutive
games of 20 points or more. She has boosted her season average to 17.0
points a game, and her shooting percentage has sky-rocketed. The South
Bend southpaw was at 38 percent shooting (14-of-37) in the four-game
stretch before her string of 20-point games. In the last three games,
Diggins is shooting 60 percent (28-of-47), including a 5-of-7 showing
from 3-point range against Tennessee.
"Skylar's shot selection has been better, especially the 3's," McGraw
said. "To be fair, a lot of her baskets are layups off the fastbreak,
but she's really been shooting it better from the perimeter, too.
