Notre Dame women's basketball: Diggins' defense special, too
Louisville women's basketball star Shoni Schimmel's nightmare was
delivered Monday afternoon in the KFC Yum! Center in Louisville.
Notre Dame point guard Skylar Diggins is meriting All-American
attention with her 17.3 points and 5.8 assists a game averages. But
Diggins' defense has been equally spectacular, as Schimmel found out.
Schimmel's nightmare was Diggins' hand in her face throughout Monday's
68-52 Irish victory.
Now, the Irish need only one victory in their final two regular-season
games to clinch at least a share of the Big East title. Notre Dame
(26-2 overall, 13-1 Big East) hosts South Florida on Saturday (2 p.m.
EST) and visits Connecticut on Monday. The Irish, who have only shared
the Big East title one other time (2001), have a one game lead on
Connecticut with two games to play.
Diggins played nearly 40 minutes, and had the prime responsibility of
shutting down Schimmel, who entered Monday's game with a scoring
average of 14.3 points a game and 62 3-pointers. For a gauge, consider
