Marty Ward says he works out on a daily basis.

"Monday Wednesday Friday are my big days," he said. "I usually do bench and chest. And then I do legs, like squats. Tuesday and Thursday are my auxiliary days. I usually do shoulders, bi's and tri's. Saturday or Sunday, depending how I'm feeling, I'll have an off day. And the other day I'll run."

Ward is 15 years old and stronger than your dad.

"This year I'm wanting to go for the state quad record, which is 430," he said. "And I put up 400 fairly easy, so I've been working toward that so far."

Ward is a sophomore at Brandywine high school in Niles, and next month, will compete at the powerlifting state championship meet. He placed second at the qualifying meet.

"I had a 440 pound dead lift," he recalled, "I did 225 on the bench, and I did 365 on squat."

It's not just pumping iron. Because of all the rules, there's a lot of precise technique involved.

"They really crack down on your form when you're doing the lifts," Ward said. "Bench, you're not allowed to move your feet or back at all. Squat, you have to go down to where your hips are parallel to the ground.

"It's very technical, it's not just pushing the weight."

In the meantime, Ward continues push the limits of how much weight he can lift, hoping that all this work will lead to him lifting a trophy.
