As a starter each of the past two seasons, Olivia Carlton has been part of Penn's impressive total of 48 wins, never coming short of semi-state.
But this year has been something entirely new and exciting.
"Being able to step into that leadership role, and helping the younger ones, it's definitely been different," Carlton said.
"It was an easy transition," Kingsmen coach Kristi Kaniewski Ulrich recalls. "Liv had great leaders before her. She was able to learn from them. Now she's in that position as well and doing a great job."
After a class of very successful seniors graduated, Carlton has the most points -- and experience -- of all the players coming back. She's turned herself into a more complete player.
"As a defender, she's become a lot more solid," Ulrich said. "And that's something that is really important to our team, because we really thrive on defense. And she's also made herself a lot more versatile, versus just being able to shoot the three. She can also take it to the hole and shoot the pull-up mid-range jumper very well."
Her numbers in the classroom are even better than the ones on the stat sheet. Carlton is a 4.0 student.
"I always want to make sure I'm setting a good example," Carlton said. "On the classroom and on the court."
