Penn high school forward Austin Torres thought he had his future all figured out.
Then came an offer he couldn't refuse.
Just a few days after giving a verbal commitment to Central Michigan, Torres has changed course and committed to play basketball at Notre Dame.
"Yes sir," Torres wrote in a text message to WSBT's David McCoy, when asked if he had committed to the Irish.
Torres' AAU coach, Rod Creech, told WSBT that the scholarship offer from Notre Dame came after Torres committed to Central Michigan on Sept. 24.
Creech said Notre Dame had been looking for a big inside player and was impressed by Torres' 6-foot, 7-inch frame and 40-inch vertical jump.
"And I guess they felt it was the right time to pull the trigger (and make the offer)," Creech told WSBT.
Torres was an Honorable Mention all-Northern Indiana Conference selection as a junior at Penn last season, averaging 10.6 points and 7.7 rebounds per game.
Torres' recruitment had been gradually picking up momentum. After flying under the radar with zero Division I offers until this summer, he drew the interest of recruiters with more than 14 points per game playing for AAU club MBA Select.
He chose the Irish over Central Michigan, Eastern Kentucky, IUPUI, Lamar, Navy, Northern Illinois, Rice, and Southern Illinois-Edwardsville.
Torres is the fourth member of Notre Dame's 2013 recruiting class, joining fellow MBA Select teammate and Michiana native Demetrius Jackson, who committed to the Irish last week. Torres was present at Jackson's announcement.
The other two Notre Dame recruits are small forward V.J. Beachem (New Haven, IN) and shooting guard Steve Vasturia (Philadelphia, PA).
