ELKHART - A new era begins at Elkhart Memorial high school this fall.

Bill Roggeman takes over the Charger football program, becoming the school's third head coach in four years.

While he's new to Memorial, Roggeman has been coaching high school football for three decades.

After Kevin Downey resigned, Roggeman took over only a few weeks ago, so he's still getting acclimated.

But he knows one thing:  He likes his players' effort.

"I don't have a great grasp on their abilities, but what I am seeing is such an improvement with mental toughness and competitiveness", Roggeman told WSBT.

"I'm really encouraged by what I see."
