New owner, now new president.
The South Bend Silver Hawks will have a very different look at the top of the organization next season.
New owner Andrew Berlin, who bought the team in November, announced Friday he has hired Joe Hart as the team's new president.
Hart was involved in the launch of a new franchise in Port Charlotte, Fla., and was named Florida State League Executive of the Year, according to a statement issued by Berlin.
"We're very excited," Berlin said in the statement. "Joe Hart brings a whole new level of professional expertise and a completely fresh way of thinking about the stadium experience for families and individuals who are looking for great, wholesome entertainment in an outdoor setting. Michiana is going to be re-introduced to the Cove this spring, and Joe Hart will have a lot to do with it."
Major League Baseball Hall of Famer Cal Ripken, Jr. was part of the Port Charlotte ownership group.
The team said Hart will move to South Bend and assume the position in January.
"I'm really focused on the modern fan experience when it comes to stadium and visitors in professional baseball," Hart said in a statement. "There simply has to be a lot more to do than just watch a game -- a lot more. And that's what I'm excited about being part of with the new South Bend Silver Hawks. Michiana is going to love what we do."
