It's official, South Bend's minor league baseball team has a new owner.

As expected, the Midwest League and Major League Baseball approved the sale of the South Bend Silver Hawks to investor Andrew Berlin.

Berlin says he received a letter of final approval Wednesday afternoon.

Berlin, a minority owner of the Chicago White Sox and a business owner in Illinois, is buying the team from former South Bend mayor Joe Kernan and his investors.

Berlin has signed a long term agreement to keep the Hawks in town. And the City has agreed to invest another seven figures in tax payer dollars on Coveleski Stadium.

Berlin also plans to spend seven figures of his own money.

Attendance sagged badly at the Cove last season.
